Andy Griffin had represented England internationally at the Under-21 level and was included in the squad in 1999. This defender had won three international caps for this team and has two international goals to his credit.
Andy Griffin began his professional football career in 1996 by playing for Stoke City and was considered to be a dependable wing-back defender. During his two-year tenure at the club, he has featured in fifty seven games that included two goal-scoring occasions. His brilliant performance for the club earned him a £1.5million deal with Newcastle United in January 1998.

By the end of the 2006-2007 season, Andy Griffin returned to Portsmouth, after making thirty three appearances for Stoke City. His stint at Portsmouth included forty three appearances and ended in 2007, following which he went on to sign for Derby County on July 31, 2007.
Andy Griffin played for the Derby country club during the 2007-2008 season and on January 11, 2008, he made a move to his former club, Stoke City, on a four-and-a-half-year contract. This deal was worth £300,000 and the club handed him the number 2 jersey. Within three weeks at this club, Andy Griffin was honored with the club’s captaincy after the former captain John Eustace was sold to Watford. He was delighted with this opportunity and had described it as a proud moment in his career.
